Dumbledore tells Draco in the Astronomy Tower that he suspected him all along. Because Dumbledore IS Dumbledore, he would rather save two other lives than his own.
So, I believe Dumbledore is in fact dead. It was apparent that his reign was over before the HBP even came out, because in order for Harry to progress as a person, he had to have the parent-like people taken away from him; before he faced Voldemort for the final time.
As for Harry being a Horcrux, it IS possible, and it would make a fantastic ending, but Voldemort wanted to KILL Harry. But suppose he DID make Harry a Horcrux: he wouldn't WANT to kill Harry because he would also be disposing his own soul. He heard of Professor Trelawney's prophecy and had to find and destroy the baby before he grew up and brought his downfall. As for harry bieng a horcrux, it is impossible because harry would then hold part of voldermorts soul. To me there are 3 questions that will be, and need to be, answered in the last book:

1. DD asked the Dursleys to allow Harry back to their home. Could there be something more significant there? Like a Horecrux?

2. How did Sirius die? Luna heard voices from behind the curtain and I think she will play a major role in the last book - as will Neville.

3. Is RAB Sirius' brother? I don't think so. Harry, Ron and Hermione would have figured it out right away. Look for it to be someone who is still alive and assists Harry with his quest.

If DD is still alive, and that is a big IF, he won't come back until Harry is sucessful (assuming he is).

As for Harry be the last horecrux and dying in the last book, I hopr not. As someone who dabbles in short stories, for JK Rowling - Harry is her baby. Then when harry potter and Ginny Weasley split up, even though it was for good intention sort of came as a suprise I'm not sure why it was plainly laid out but still I guess I didn't want it to happen...O well

Then last when Dumbledore was dying and snape killed him I imediatly thought snape was truely on the other side and that was the point when he decided this. When dumbledore asked softly for his life, (I do think he was asking) I think that he wanted to see wether he could trust snape or not in some kind of way...maybe to show harry? I'm not sure, but I do think dumbledore ment to die because I think he knew that the locket had already been taken and he knew what the drink might do. but its just a guess of course...Anyway though the reason for him wanting to die I believe was so that harry could face he-who-must-not-be-named alone and that dumbledore believed that harry was indeed ready so he let him go.
