When I have holidays from work (as I do now) I try my best to get away from home for a while, and the one place I love to skive off to, even for a day or two, is London. You can imagine me gleaming deviously when I found out that Ummah Films co-founder Baba Ali will be doing a talk at Imperial College London, they've called it "An Evening with Ali".
All I had to do now was convince someone to tag along, and that wasn't easy. Everyone I asked was not feeling the vibe - "Why would I want to go all the way to London to go to an Islamic Event?" was a common question and none of them had heard of the Ummah Film videos so that didn't do me any favours. As always they all said they were "busy" with work etc.
"The guy's called Baba Ali, man how can you not want to go see a guy with a name like his?!"
Despite all of my best efforts and persuasion tactics I only managed to convince my friend Abz to take the day off and roam London with me. It helped since he's never been to the capital before and one of his phrases is "Hell, I ain't even been to London nevermind anything else!" so this was a perfect opportunity to let it rest.
It's going to be a quick little trip, we'll be setting off Friday morning and getting back late Saturday evening which means we'll only get to stay one night in London. We would have liked to stay longer but unfortunately Abz has commitments, maybe next time.
I see that tickets are currently sold out over at theisoc.com/ali however they are trying to extend seating capacity at the moment so if you want to go keep checking.
This should be a good light-hearted blast since it's going to involve a large multicultural "moslem" audience spreading across all age groups, can't wait to see how they react to the humor of the topics. If anyone doesn't know what I'm talking on about I'll leave you with one of his videos (or reminders as he likes to call 'em).
