My Eid Day And Dad’s Search For An Eid Mosque

Saturday 28th October 2006 06:14:24 PM

Like all Eid’s it means I have to wake up early in order get ready in time to attend Eid namaz at the mosque. Got up at 6:30am to have a shave and then had a nice relaxing bath. I had spent quite a bit on my Eid clothes so I was raring to go, well not really but more so that all the previous Eid’s.

I was the first one downstairs and ready, and believe me you don’t see those two combinations often! Just after I had had breakfast Dad and Manny (young brother) were ready so we set off to go the mosque.

Now let me tell you something about my Dad and the mosque. Most people stick to one (or maybe two mosque’s) for their Eid namaz but no, not my Dad. Every year as far as I can remember he has been switching mosques like a headless chicken. It’s gotten so bad that this year Mum was saying that she’s going to stick to one mosque and if that means doing Eid on separate days then so be it. Go Mum! I don’t think she would though.

Even my mates have started having a laugh over it

“Hey Tos when’s your Eid?”
“Er Tuesday I think”
“What? Ain’t you following Saudi?”
“Nah not this year yara”
“Oh you’re a Moroccan now huh”
“Yeah … I guess so”

So as I was saying … my old man has done the rounds at all the major mosques in Dewsbury and he isn’t really satisfied with any of them. As Mum was teasing him when we returned home from Eid namaz, “I think we’ve ran out of mosques for you. Oh whatever will we do now? There’s only one thing to do! Go to a mosque outside Dewsbury because you haven’t tried them yet!”

He promised her he’s going to join and stick to the local town mosque that follows Saudi. I’m not fussed or convinced and Mum is far from convinced.

“He’ll probably continue switching from one local mosque to another” she said to me, “Well atleast he keeps everyone happy”.

hehe. I think it's nice to go to the same mosque each year on Eid, as you see all your mates there. It's good seeing familiar faces :-)

I laughed reading this because my husband does the same thing your dad does. Alhumdolillah that we only have 3 masajid here. He doesn't do that on Eid but in Ramadan. He'll go to the smaller masjid for Iftar & Magrib & then want to prayer Isha & Taraweeh in the bigger one in town. I prefer just to go to the larger one myself. Don't like switching all the time.

Anyway I hope you had a great Eid.
