This post is continued from The Crash so you may want to read it first
Mum had decided to take the non motorway route and take a shortcut by travelling on the dual carriageway. This was a decision that was going to cost her the family car she was driving. Bear in mind that she has never been to Scotland before.
On this particular dual-carriageway everyone was travelling at speeds of 65mph+ (whether legal or not I don't know). There are only two lanes (remember it's not a motorway) and cars are speeding in the other lane which are going the opposite direction.
The fatal incident occurred as Mum was approaching a bend and could see a large vehicle (truck or lorry) in the other lane. This is where she tries to brake but the car swerves infront of the vehicle which is in the distance, quickly she manages to avoid it and is in her own lane for no more than a second until the anti-breaking system comes into force dragging her back infront of the approaching vehicle.
Anti-breaking system is a standard feature in UK cars to prevent serious accidents.
The car is skidding all over the place and at this point Mum thought they were all goners. In a last attempt to escape the wrath of the large vehicle and avoid being crushed under it she courageously turned the steering wheel full whack. This leads to the car swerving to the left, breaking through a fence, turning upside down in mid air, and to top it all off land in a ditch upside down with water coming up to their knees!
Luckily my elder sister who was sitting in the passenger seat managed to open a window just before they landed.
Boba and the little one are at the back, and because they weren't wearing seatbelts they moved around as the car fell and survived with minor injuries. The first thing that happened was Boba shouting "I'm ok, I'm ok are you guys alright?" then the little one starts crying so Boba tries to get her to be quite. Aapa in the passenger seat replies "I'm ok just take off my seatbelt, take off my seatbelt!" - She and Mum are hanging upside down as the seat belt is holding them in place. Note at this time Mum hasn't said anything.
Boba has no idea where to open the belt as everything is all over the place. She clutches around and accidentally opens Mum's seatbelt instead and this allows her to breath (as the belt was strangling her body). Mum says at this time she could feel her body becoming numb and only had a few seconds to live, also that her mind was blank and only came to her senses when she heard the little one at the back crying and wanted to know if she is ok.
At this point Aapa has Mum by the arm and is saying "C'mon, through the window", so these two manage to scramble out. As I mentioned earlier, water is up to their knees making it hard for them to walk.
I'm going to have to continue this in part 3 as it's getting too long
