Remember my previous work place, Safeway Dewsbury, which closed down as they were incurring heavy losses? I believe one of the reasons contributed to this was because they let anyone use their car park, so when customers wanted to do their shopping they had to be turned away because there was no parking space, as others had done so and then gone to Dewsbury market which was 5 minutes walking distance. Working at Safeway really was the best, simply because there were less customers and hardly any work!
I was browsing across the local Dewsbury Reporter site and came across parking dilemma; I couldn't help but smirk at the news. News that sales of market traders in Dewsbury have fallen by 40% since Safeway (and its car park) closed down a few months ago. The new owner, Lidl, said they would not be giving free parking spaces for non-customers when they open towards the end of the year. Now that's how you do business.
All those years Dewsbury traders were enjoying the custom of those who used the Safeway car park without giving it an appreciative thought, and now they cry. Well maybe not, but you know what I mean.
The fault at the end of the day belongs to Safeway, they shouldn't have let 'customers' use the car park if they were not going to shop at the supermarket. This way maybe Safeway would have still been here (as well as the employees), and the traders would not now have a 40% drop in sales.
Why am I blogging about this? Hell, I don't know.
why not at least leave the damn car park open in the meantime, instead of leaving big ass stone blocks blocking it and making the area look deserted.
it was the best car park arround the area. sigh, shame to see it so dead and useless.
only if i had a tank to drive, i'd park it in there.
Yay, it seems solid-box is from Dewsbury too
Would have been best if they left it open but businesses dont do that unless they are making kaching
In a way I feel sorry for the traders now :-( because they cant help whats happened
